Alberta Government – Education – Special Needs

Under the School Act, school boards are required to provide every resident student with an education. That includes providing access to special education programs for students with special needs.

AQIEPS

Advocating for equal opportunities in education for post-secondary students with disabilities. Our association is made up of persons with disabilities who were able to attend regular classes in elementary and secondary school and who, as a result, had the option to pursue post-secondary education.

Beyond the Box Basics

The purpose of Beyond the Box Basics is to encourage awareness of abilities and to provide information on the “how to” of successfully involving children/students with diverse needs. Presentations will be individually tailored to meet the needs and numbers of the workshop participants.

The TEACCH approach includes a focus on the person with autism and the development of a program around this person’s skills, interests, and needs.

Families First Society, Fort Saskatchewan

Works in partnership with many community agencies to offer a variety of programs and services that promote positive parenting and early childhood development to families with young children ages 0-6 years. Offers parent education, programs for young children to learn and play, family support services, as well as information and referral to other programs/services in the community that may benefit families.

G.R.I.T. Calgary Society

Provides a family centered, home-based early education program, which will assist the child with special needs in the successful transition to a community school and promotes public education in support of inclusion and inclusive communities.
